WHAT DOES THE COMMITMENT ENTAIL?
Like in any other sport, mastery in fencing requires commitment. Most clubs charge a monthly fee and encourage you to use the club every day of the week. Most fencers go a minimum of 3 days a week. Practice is about 2 hours long with the initial physical training followed by bouts of fencing.
When starting out, it is better to borrow the club's equipment for the first month or so, and invest in the gear after you are sure to continue.
Sign up for your USA fencing membership. This will give access to all the events happening in your region. You should start going to all the local tournaments even if you feel you aren't ready. Playing others in a competitive setting is the best way to hone your skills.
